Project Title: Unsighted-Uncited to Seen- Sourced
Following my interest of collecting and creating forms from objects that have lost value (to the original owner), I plan to create a body of small scale sculptures that will elevate the lost, forgotten and discarded materials and plants found in Rowan County, North Carolina.
Over the course of six months (3 seasons) I will be collecting materials and stories from people and places from around the county. While collecting I will be talking to people about the project and challenging their perception of what artists can be and do. The goal is to get people to really see the materials and possibilities around them. Once I have obtained a variety of materials from very specific locations I will compose the materials into a botanically inspired form native to Rowan County.
The finished works will be framed by Bruce and Jackie Wilson of Fine Frame Gallery (Salisbury, NC) and displayed in their store with a reception open to the public.
During the six-month duration (Dec. 2014- June 2015) of the project I will be consulting with Catawba Colleges’ Center for the Environment and The Rowan County Center for plant classification and habitat issues.
